DIMENSIONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Wall thickness from 0.6 mm to 20 mm
Dimensional precision net-shape or near net-shape :
> tight tolerances
> excellent dimensional repeatability
> flatness
• Linear tolerances :
L ± 0.025 mm up to one inch of dimension (L = 25.400 mm)
L ± 0.1% above one inch
Example : 20 mm ± 0.025 mm
76 mm ± 0.076 mm
Across parting line and moving die components : linear tolerance plus an allowance of an additional :
> + 0.051 mm for a projected area of 64.5 cm2
> + 0.254 mm for a projected area of 645.2 cm2
• Flatness tolerances :
L ± 0.076 mm for up to L = 76.2 mm
+ 0.025 mm for each additional 25.4 mm ( or +0.1% of additional length)
(the largest dimension of the flat surface should be used)
Example : 20 mm ± 0.076 mm
100 mm ± 0.076 + (100-76.2)*0.1/100 = 100 mm ± 0.1 m
• Physical characteristics :
Lightness : density of 1.82 (2/3 of aluminium and 1/4 of steel)
High thermal conductivity
Heat resistance
No creep at room temperature
Electrical conductivity
Small porosity: as low as 1%
Good surface quality
Excellent damping properties
Electromagnetic interference EMI and radio frequency interference RFI shielding
MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS
• Stiffntess and ultimate tensile strength as compared with other materials :

> AZ91D and AM60D : typical magnesium grades used in Thixomolding®
> AISI 1000 : Carbon steel
> AA201.0-T6 and 380 Al: die-cast aluminium grades
> IXEF and Zytel HTN : polyamides reinforced with 30% glass fibres
> ABS and nylon PA6 reinforced with 30% glass fibres
